History of Elmers Court

Elmers Court sites at the edge of the New Forest and the ground overlook the beautiful Solent and Lymington River.  The manor house is a fine example of Tudor architecture and has played a large part in the political history of Lymington since the 1800’s.

The manor house was originally built in 1820 and was originally called “the elms”.  The estate was originally owned by the Whitaker family and remained with them until 1930.  After 1930 it was used by Middlesex County Council as a School of Delicate Children.  In the 1940’s it was taken over by the War Office to act as an Electronic and Communication Centre and was also used as a Spy School training the famous Britis.

After the invasion it was turned into a Rest and Relaxation Centre and then after the war it was returned to Middlexsex County Council.  In 1986 it was bought by Barrat International Resorts and turned into a hotel.
